Technology
Bausch & Lomb is the international leader in eye care. They developed and introduced a unique integrated laser correction system for refractive problems. It was even accepted by the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in June 2003; they are commonly known to be have the strictest quality control standards in the world.
Our facility offers the the most modern Bausch & Lomb technology and medical expertise for refractive laser correction.
The integrated Bausch & Lomb technology consists of:
 |
Cornea topography |
 |
Wavefront measurement system / aberrometer / Zywave |
 |
Microkeratome / Hansatome |
 |
Excimer laser / Technolas 217z excimer laser |

The intelligent software - Zylink |
 Cornea topography / Orbscan IIz
This device is a corneal mapping system used to accurately map the contour of the cornea by analyzing 9000 points. It allows your surgeon to better assess your cornea in preparation for surgery. It provides a precise view of the shape and size of the cornea to determine which procedures should be used or whether certain corneal deviations prevent you from having the laser eye correction. Bausch & Lomb calls this instrument the Orbscan II. The exam takes only a few minutes. It is painless and performed without coming in direct contact with the eye.
Wavefront measurement system / aberrometer / Zywave
The aberrometer, although we do not use it with every procedure, is capable of measuring your complete optical system. This techonology first entered opthalmology through developments in astronomy. The surgeon receives valuable information about other aberrations in the optical system that are causing light to scatter unevenly. The device finds these deviations, suggests an individualized solution and is even able to show a picture of the expected results after surgery. Bausch & Lomb developed the Zywave wavefront measurement system for this analysis.
 Microkeratome / Hansatome

It is a highly efficient and safe surgical instrument used in the first stage of a LASIK type procedure. Surgeons use it to create corneal flaps prior to performing the laser procedure. The Hansatome, engineered by Bausch & Lomb, is the only instrument of its kind approved by the USA FDA for Lasik treatments.

Excimer laser / Technolas 217 Excimer Laser
Already the leading laser throughout most of the world, this instrument uses "flying spot" techonology.
The laser and integrated laser bed were ergonomically designed to provide maximum comfort for the patient, and efficient and easy instrument control for the surgeon. The Bausch & Lomb Technolas 217 type Excimer Laser uses a cool ultra-violet light to reshape the cornea with the latest "flying spot" technique. A thin laser finely moves to produce a smooth corneal surface. The Technolas laser is used in 50% of the laser treatments performed in Europe.
Bausch & Lomb engineered eye tracking safety tool
This is an advanced video tracking system, that calculates the position of your eye faster than the blink of an eye (app. 4000 times a second). During the treatment our eyes make countless involuntary movements, which could affect the accuracy of the procedure. The tracker detects these movements and instructs the laser to follow them within a specific range (3mm). Thanks to this instrument the laser will always treat the proper area. If the eye were to move beyond the specificed range, the tracker automatically shuts down the laser and waits for the eye to move back into place. The eye tracker supervises the laser treatment in this way, to guarantee that the laser performs the eye correction with the highest degree of accuracy and safety.

Zylink - the intelligent software
The Zylink software was a leap in technology for laser eye correction.
This software is able to integrate the information about the patient specific ablation pattern, wavefront measurements, and the topography and biomechanics of the cornea or 3-D map of the eye. The software calculates the optimal treatment based on this diagnostic information. This software makes it possible to decipher what needs to be treated and in exactly what dimensions the surgery needs to be performed. To this date, the results have been very safe and precise. The Bausch & Lomb integrated software is the soul of this new technology, which surpassed the previously used wavefront measured procedure coined, "eagle eye treatment" in British medical jargon.
