What you should do after the treatment

Follow our physician's and the assistant's instructions exactly!

What you should do after the treatment:

Make sure you are using the eye drops that were ordered for you - they prevent infection and other possible adverse effects. Follow instructions on how to use drops properly!
If they suggested you use drops to prevent your eyes from drying out, you should definitely use them. Use the drops as often as you feel your eyes are dry!
After you finish your post-surgical treatment, throw out the remaining medications!
Go to all follow-up appointments - it's especially important not to forget your appointments later on (3, 6 and 12 months after the surgery). These exams give your surgeon an opportunity to check the progress of your vision.
In the first week, protect your eyes from the sun, by wearing UV protective sunglasses (even if it is cloudy or raining).
Rest, relax, but do not spend time in front of your computer at home!
Ask your physician when you can go back to work. Most patients can go back to work the following day.

What not to do after the treatment:

You may feel that your eyes are sensitive or tearing after the procedure. DO NOT rub them! Get advice from your doctor!
Do not go into a steamroom or sauna, and do not swim, until you have gotten permission from your physician (3-4 weeks)
Do not play sports or go to the gym, until your doctor recommends it (at least 3 weeks)
Do not do physical work, for example gardening, scrubbing the floor, lifting heavy objects, shopping in bulk, etc.
Do not wear make-up, powder, mascara, or eye-liner until your doctor allows it. All these things can get into your eyes and cause irritation. You can wear make-up after you are fully recovered.
Do not drive until your doctor has determined the degree of your recovery - in certain cases eyes heal slower than expected. It is important that both eyes regain their full strength before you drive.
During the first few days, try to take a bath instead of a shower. Protect your eyes from water, soap and other bathing products. Only wash your hair after 1 week.
Do not smoke and do not stay in smokey areas for a longer period of time!

These are the most important things you need to keep in mind while recovering. If there are other things you need to do after the surgery, your physician or other staff member will inform you of them.
