Treatment of cataract
About ultrasound procedure
Although many people think that laser is used for the treatment of cataract - as well as in many ophthalmologic procedures - actually this procedure is performed with ultrasound method in which only 1.8 to 2,85 mm incision is made on the outer edge of the cornea and the faded lens is removed through it. The capsule of the lens remains in place and the prosthetic lens is implanted into it. Before the treatment patient's stress is alleviated with medicine, and local anaesthesia is applied in the form of eye-drops.
The treatment takes only 25-30 minutes.
Advantages of the procedure with small incision:
- More rapid recovery
- Lower risk of infection: the smaller the incision is, the lesser the cornea "injury" and consequently the risk of possible inflammation and infection decreases
- Excellent contrast sensitivity
- Better vision quality under varying light conditions
- Decreased risk of development of reflection disorder (astigmatism)
