For near-sighted (myopic) eyes, the curving of the cornea is larger than usual, it is too convex, or the eyeball is longer than necessary. Thereby, the light beams will focus in front the retina.
A painless and quick laser therapy will treat near-sightedness by decreasing the curving of the cornea. It makes the corneal curvature flatter resulting in a backwards shift of the focus point into the plane of the retina, and blurred vision resolves.
In general, treatment range for near-sightedness is from minus 1.0 dioptre to minus 12.0 dioptres, depending on the corneal thickness. In all cases, possible treatment techniques and treatment programmes are defined based on individual medical assessment.
